Annular velocity

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000134

The speed at which drilling fluid moves through the annulus, the space between the drill string and the wellbore wall. This velocity is calculated by dividing the volumetric flow rate of the fluid by the cross-sectional area of the annulus. Maintaining proper annular velocity is necessary to effectively lift drill cuttings out of the wellbore and prevent them from settling.
