Area open to flow

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000173

The total cross-sectional area of all perforation tunnels connecting a wellbore to a reservoir formation, representing the cumulative conduit for fluid entry. It is calculated by multiplying the area of a single perforation, based on the charge's entry hole diameter, by the total number of shots fired over a given interval. This value, expressed in square inches or square centimeters, is a primary input for calculating the well's productivity index and skin factor.
