Asphaltic mud additive
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000201
A finely ground asphalt material added to drilling fluids, primarily oil-based muds, to improve filtration control and enhance the stability of the wellbore. It forms a thin, impermeable filter cake on the wellbore wall, reducing fluid loss into permeable formations. This additive also contributes to sealing micro-fractures and preventing differential sticking of the drill string.
