Differential pressure sticking
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001071
A condition where the drill string becomes stuck against the wellbore wall due to a pressure imbalance. This occurs when the hydrostatic pressure of the drilling fluid in the wellbore exceeds the formation pore pressure, pressing a section of the drill pipe against a permeable formation. The pressure differential creates a force that holds the pipe against the filter cake, preventing its movement.
