Mechanical sticking

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002318

A condition where the drill string becomes immobilized in the wellbore due to physical obstruction rather than differential pressure. This can occur when the drill string becomes wedged in an irregular hole section, a keyseat, or due to accumulation of cuttings. It is often resolved by jarring or working the pipe free, unlike differential sticking which requires pressure equalization.
