Bridging material
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000458
Solid particles added to drilling fluid to seal permeable formations and prevent fluid loss into the rock matrix. These materials form a filter cake on the wellbore wall, reducing differential sticking and maintaining wellbore stability. Common bridging materials include calcium carbonate, cellulose fibers, and gilsonite, sized to match pore throat dimensions.
