Bridge-off
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000456
The formation of a plug in a wellbore caused by solid particles, such as sand or cuttings, accumulating at a point of restriction. This blockage obstructs the flow of fluids and can occur unintentionally during production or be created deliberately during well control operations using specialized bridging agents. The size of the bridging particles is selected to be slightly larger than the pore throats of the formation or the perforations to create an effective seal.
