Fiber lost-circulation material

A substance consisting of natural or synthetic fibers, introduced into drilling fluid to combat lost circulation. It works by bridging and plugging fractures or highly permeable zones in the wellbore, thereby stopping the flow of drilling mud into the formation. Materials such as cellulose, wood, or synthetic polymers are used for this purpose.
