Lost-circulation material

A substance added to drilling fluid to seal off permeable formations or fractures that are causing fluid loss into the wellbore. These materials come in many forms, including fibrous, flaky, granular, or a combination, and vary in size to bridge different opening dimensions. Common examples include mica, cellophane, nut shells, and engineered polymers.
