Flake LCM

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001446

A type of lost-circulation material (LCM) characterized by a flat, thin, and flaky physical shape. These materials, which include mica, cellophane, and specific polymer flakes, are added to drilling fluid to seal off fractures and permeable zones where mud is being lost. The flakes are designed to bridge across the openings of loss zones on the wellbore wall, forming a mat that plugs the pathway.
