Differential SP
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001072
A spontaneous potential measurement taken between two electrodes placed close together in the borehole, rather than between a downhole electrode and a surface reference. Because it records the potential difference over a short interval, it responds to the gradient of the SP curve, which sharpens bed boundaries and suppresses noise common to both electrodes, such as telluric and surface-electrode effects. Like conventional SP, it needs an open hole filled with conductive water-based mud.
