Membrane potential
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002321
An electrical potential difference that develops across a shale membrane when two solutions of different salinity are in contact with it. This potential is a component of the spontaneous potential (SP) log, reflecting the electrochemical activity of the formation. It is primarily influenced by the salinity contrast between the formation water and the drilling mud filtrate.
