Electrokinetic potential
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001279
The electrical potential that develops across an interface between a solid and a fluid when there is relative movement between them, or when a pressure gradient exists. In boreholes, this potential, also known as streaming potential, contributes to the spontaneous potential (SP) log, indicating fluid flow and permeability contrasts. It is a surface phenomenon influenced by the charge of the rock and the ionic composition of the fluid.
