Electrokinetic potential

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003689

The electrical potential existing at the shear plane of a charged particle or surface in an electrolyte solution. This potential arises from the separation of charge between the stationary layer of fluid adhering to the particle and the bulk electrolyte. It is a key parameter in understanding the stability of colloidal dispersions and is measured by techniques like electrophoresis.
