Streaming current

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011470

An electric current generated when an electrolyte solution flows through a capillary or porous plug, causing the mobile ions in the diffuse part of the electrical double layer to be carried along by the fluid motion. This phenomenon is a type of electrokinetic effect. The magnitude of the current is proportional to the applied pressure gradient and the zeta potential of the surface.
