Streaming potential difference
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011471
An electric potential difference that develops across a porous medium or capillary when an electrolyte solution is forced to flow through it by a pressure gradient. This potential arises from the displacement of mobile ions in the diffuse layer by the flowing liquid. It is an electrokinetic phenomenon, directly related to the zeta potential of the solid-liquid interface.
