Double-layer current
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003413
The non-faradaic current that flows when the potential of an electrode changes and the ions at its surface rearrange, charging or discharging the electrical double layer that forms there, with no electron transfer across the interface. Also called the charging or capacitive current, it appears as background in voltammetry and obscures small faradaic signals, which is why pulse techniques sample the current after it has decayed.
