Polarizable electrode
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009078
An electrode whose potential changes readily when a potential is applied or a small current is passed, because little charge transfer occurs across the interface. An ideally polarizable electrode passes no steady faradaic current over its working potential range, and only charging of the double layer takes place. A mercury drop in a solution of an inert salt behaves almost this way over a wide potential window.
