Mercury electrode

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007193

An electrode constructed using mercury as the electroactive material, often in the form of a dropping mercury electrode or a hanging mercury drop electrode. Its smooth, renewable surface and wide cathodic potential range make it suitable for the analysis of many metal ions and organic compounds. However, its use is restricted due to the toxicity of mercury.
