Residual current
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010220
The background current in an electrochemical cell measured with a blank solution, that is, one lacking the species under study, at the potential in use. It combines the charging current of the electrical double layer with faradaic currents from trace impurities, dissolved oxygen, solvent or supporting electrolyte. It is subtracted from the measured current to obtain the current due to the analyte.
