Double-labelled protein

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003412

A protein in which essentially every nitrogen is 15N and every carbon is 13C, usually produced by expression in E. coli grown on 15N ammonium chloride and 13C glucose. The two heavy isotopes allow triple-resonance NMR experiments that connect backbone amide, alpha-carbon and carbonyl signals for sequential assignment. A triple-labelled protein carries deuterium in addition to 15N and 13C, which suits larger targets.
