Pseudostatic spontaneous potential
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002986
The spontaneous potential recorded opposite a thick, permeable, shaly bed, which is smaller than the static spontaneous potential that clean sand with the same fluids would give, because shale reduces the electrochemical potential. The ratio of the two is the SP reduction factor, and one minus that ratio gives a simple estimate of shale volume.
