Static spontaneous potential
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003596
The maximum potential difference that can develop between the formation water and the mud filtrate in a permeable bed, measured by the spontaneous potential log. This potential arises from the electrochemical and electrokinetic properties of the fluids and rock. It is used to determine formation water salinity and identify permeable zones within a wellbore.
