Membrane potential
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007162
The electrical potential difference that exists across a biological membrane, arising from the unequal distribution of charged ions on either side. This potential is generated by the selective permeability of the membrane to specific ions and the activity of ion pumps. It is measured in volts (V) or millivolts (mV).
