Membrane rafts
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007163
Dynamic, nanoscale assemblies of sphingolipids, sterol lipids, and specific proteins within the plasma membrane of eukaryotic cells. These microdomains are characterized by their transient nature and their resistance to solubilization by non-ionic detergents at low temperatures. They are thought to serve as organizing centers for cellular processes such as signal transduction and membrane trafficking.
