Sterol lipids
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011404
A class of lipids characterized by a core steroid structure, typically with a hydroxyl group at the C-3 position and an alkyl side chain at C-17. These compounds are amphipathic, possessing both hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions. Cholesterol is a prominent example of a sterol lipid, found in animal cell membranes.
