Steroidogenesis assay
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011403
A procedure for quantifying the production of steroid hormones from cholesterol precursors. It is used in toxicology to determine if a substance interferes with the steroidogenic pathway, potentially acting as an endocrine disruptor. These assays often use cell lines, such as the H295R human adrenocortical carcinoma cell line, and measure changes in hormone levels like testosterone and estradiol using techniques like liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.
