Leydig cell
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006552
Interstitial cells located within the testes, specifically in the connective tissue surrounding the seminiferous tubules. They are the primary source of androgens, such as testosterone, in males. The synthesis and secretion of these hormones are regulated by luteinizing hormone (LH) from the pituitary gland, which binds to specific receptors on the Leydig cell surface, initiating the steroidogenesis pathway.
