Cytotoxicity assay

A laboratory procedure designed to evaluate the toxic effects of a substance on cells. These assays measure parameters such as cell viability, cell proliferation, or cell death after exposure to a test compound. Common methods include MTT assays, lactate dehydrogenase release assays, and flow cytometry.
