Lipoproteins

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006669

Biomolecular complexes that transport lipids, such as triglycerides and cholesterol, through aqueous environments like blood plasma. They consist of a hydrophobic core of lipids surrounded by a hydrophilic shell of phospholipids, cholesterol, and apolipoproteins. Different classes, such as high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and low-density lipoproteins (LDL), are distinguished by their density and protein composition.
