Lipid raft

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006655

A microdomain within a cell membrane characterized by a distinct composition of lipids and proteins, being enriched in cholesterol and sphingolipids. These ordered, detergent-resistant membrane regions serve as organizing centers for the assembly of signaling molecules, influencing membrane fluidity and protein trafficking. In immunotoxicology, they are recognized for their role in concentrating receptors and signaling proteins required for lymphocyte activation.
