Lipid extraction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006653
A laboratory procedure used to isolate lipids from biological samples or food matrices. This typically involves using organic solvents, such as chloroform, methanol, or hexane, to dissolve the hydrophobic lipid components while leaving behind other cellular constituents. Common methods include the Folch method and the Bligh and Dyer method.
