Proteolipids
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009597
A class of proteins covalently modified with lipid or fatty acid moieties, rendering them soluble in organic solvents like a chloroform-methanol mixture. This lipid modification anchors them within biological membranes and makes them insoluble in aqueous solutions. Proteolipids are distinct from lipoproteins, which are non-covalent complexes of lipids and proteins that are soluble in water.
