Structural lipids
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011494
A class of lipids that are major components of biological membranes, providing the structural framework for cells and organelles. Unlike storage lipids, these molecules are amphipathic, possessing both a hydrophilic head and a hydrophobic tail, which enables them to self-assemble into lipid bilayers. The main classes of structural lipids include glycerophospholipids, sphingolipids, and sterol lipids such as cholesterol.
