Lipid-based bioconcentration factor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006658
A measure of the accumulation of a chemical in the fatty tissues of an aquatic organism relative to its concentration in the surrounding water, normalized by the lipid content of the organism. This factor accounts for the lipophilicity of many organic pollutants, which tend to partition into lipids. It is expressed as the ratio of the chemical concentration in the organism's lipids to its concentration in the ambient water at equilibrium.
