Biota-sediment accumulation factor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001327

The ratio of the concentration of a chemical in the tissue of an aquatic organism to its concentration in the surrounding sediment. This factor quantifies the extent to which an organism accumulates a substance from the sediment through direct contact or ingestion. It is typically used in ecological risk assessments to evaluate the potential for contaminant transfer from sediment to benthic organisms.
