Infauna
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005822
Benthic animals that live within the substrate of an aquatic environment, such as in sand or mud. These organisms, which include many types of worms, clams, and crustaceans, burrow into the sediment rather than living on its surface. In contrast, epifauna are organisms that live on the surface of the sediment or attached to submerged objects.
