Bioaccumulation potential
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001238
The inherent propensity of a chemical substance to accumulate in living organisms, specifically within their tissues, at concentrations higher than those found in the surrounding environment. This potential is influenced by factors such as the substance's lipophilicity, resistance to metabolism, and the organism's exposure duration. It is often quantified by the bioaccumulation factor (BAF) or bioconcentration factor (BCF).
