Bioconcentration factor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001256

A ratio that expresses the concentration of a chemical in an aquatic organism relative to its concentration in the surrounding water at equilibrium. It is calculated as the concentration in the organism divided by the concentration in the water. This factor is a key metric for assessing the potential for chemicals to accumulate in aquatic food webs.
