Uptake rate constant

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012465

The first-order rate constant in a one-compartment model that describes how fast an organism takes up a substance from the surrounding water. It links the concentration in the organism to the concentration in water, so it is expressed as water volume cleared per unit mass of organism per unit time, for example liters per kilogram per day. It is paired with an elimination rate constant, in units of inverse time, and the ratio of the two gives the bioconcentration factor at steady state.
