Uptake
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012464
The process by which a substance is absorbed into a cell, tissue, or organism from its surrounding environment. This can occur through passive diffusion, facilitated diffusion, or active transport mechanisms across biological membranes. The rate of uptake is influenced by factors such as concentration gradients, membrane permeability, and the presence of specific transporters.
