Macropinocytosis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006888
A clathrin-independent endocytic pathway characterized by the formation of large, irregular membrane protrusions that engulf extracellular fluid and its contents. This process is distinct from receptor-mediated endocytosis and is often triggered by growth factors or other signaling molecules. Macropinocytosis is particularly active in antigen-presenting cells like dendritic cells, facilitating the uptake of antigens.
