Pinocytosis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008977
A form of endocytosis in which a cell engulfs extracellular fluid and its dissolved solutes by forming small vesicles from the plasma membrane. This process is often referred to as 'cell drinking' and is a non-specific mechanism for internalizing substances. It is distinct from phagocytosis, which involves engulfing solid particles.
