Vesicle

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012557

A small, membrane-enclosed sac within the cytoplasm of a cell, used for storing or transporting substances. In a broader anatomical or toxicological context, it describes a small, circumscribed, fluid-filled elevation on a surface like the skin or a mucous membrane, essentially a blister. Cellular vesicles, such as endosomes and exosomes, are typically between 30 and 1000 nanometers in diameter and are involved in processes like endocytosis and intercellular communication.
