Exocytosis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004210

A cellular process in which substances are transported from the interior of the cell to the exterior by fusing a vesicle containing the substance with the cell membrane. This mechanism is used for secreting hormones, neurotransmitters, and waste products, as well as for inserting proteins into the cell membrane. It is an energy-dependent process.
