Exoenzymes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004211
Enzymes that are secreted by a cell and function outside the cell, typically in the extracellular environment. These enzymes catalyze the breakdown of complex macromolecules into smaller, absorbable units. Examples include digestive enzymes in the gut or cellulases produced by fungi to degrade plant material.
