Mero
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007195
A combining prefix, from the Greek word for part, that marks a partial or fragmentary version of a structure. In merocyanine dyes, related to the cyanines, a nitrogen group terminates only one end of the conjugated chain and the other end carries a carbonyl-type acceptor, whereas a cyanine carries nitrogen groups at both ends.
