Meroblastic cleavage
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007196
A type of cell division that occurs during early embryonic development in eggs containing a large amount of yolk, where only a portion of the egg cytoplasm undergoes cleavage. The cleavage furrows do not penetrate the entire egg, instead forming a disc of cells (blastodisc) on the surface of the yolk. This is characteristic of birds, reptiles, and fish.
