Cyanine dyes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002809
A class of synthetic organic dyes characterized by a polymethine chain connecting two heterocyclic nitrogen-containing rings. These dyes exhibit intense absorption in the visible and near-infrared regions of the spectrum, making them useful as fluorescent labels and sensitizers in photography. Their absorption and emission wavelengths can be tuned by varying the length of the polymethine chain.
