Cyanides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002808

Organic compounds characterized by the presence of a cyano functional group, -C≡N, where a carbon atom is triply bonded to a nitrogen atom. These compounds are derivatives of hydrogen cyanide and can be found as nitriles, where the cyano group is bonded to an organic residue, or as inorganic salts containing the cyanide anion. Many cyanide compounds are highly toxic.
